The Walking Consumers

Sometimes, you just take a picture, not having the slightest idea how it will look at the end. This is one of them, mostly due to the shadows and people posture. Oh and btw, this daring critique of consumerism was taken on my expensive japanese camera… 🙂

Sunday…

This is one of the amazing murals at Derry, Northern Ireland, UK. It pictures a young kid with a molotov in his hand and a gas mask. It is derived from one of the most famous pictures of Bloody Sunday.

Same story as “Poisoned Glen” : ” you don’t usually get a nice sunset in August in Ireland, so when you know you’re going to have, you rush to the nearest viewpoint and smash your camera shutter.” Still, I hate panoramas.

Once again the “black clouds” of Michel Sardou’s famous song about Connemara are relevant to irish weather. However, this one was taken in Co Donegal, at Glenveagh National Park. Irish sunset…

Against the storm

Taken in the MGWR trackbed near Maam Cross, Co Galway, Ireland. Basically, bad weather + strong color subject = great combination. Oh, and by the way, why center subject when you have axial symmetry ? 🙂

Lackavrea

Could have just titled it “Connemara is beautiful”, because that’s what it shows. Not much more to say. This is a picture of the Lackavrea hill, near Lough Corrib, Co Galway, Ireland. Taken from the MGWR trackbed, near Maam Cross.

You lookin’ at me ?

One of the least timid deer I have ever seen, this one let me approach at around 15m of him, in Glenveagh National Park, Co Donegal, Ireland. I still used my Lumix telephoto at full length (175 mm on M43).

Dun Briste

The Dun Briste (“broken fort”) is a small pack of land, detached from the cliffs of Downpatrick Head, Co Mayo, Ireland. There are many local tales as to how it became separated from the land, but the rock was still inhabited and linked to the mainlain by a narrow land bridge until the 14th century, where a violent storm cut the bridge. Anyhow, no giant troll was harmed during the making of this picture.

Local weather of Connacht

My best picture of Ireland in my opinion, because it represents everything I felt there. It was taken in the descent from Leenaun Hill, Co Galway, Ireland. After spending 2 hours in the Maumturks ridge, under high winds and low clouds, the weather cleared during the descent, and became quite irish : local thick rainy clouds and small sunshines.

She will be at sea

Continuing on my addiction to landlocked boats, this picture was taken in Galway, Ireland, at low tide. Just wait a tiny sunshine after 30 minutes below the rain and you’ll get this texture !

Black cloud

90% of the pictures I took in Ireland could have been named “black cloud(s)”, but I guess this one was the most worthy of this title. Taken near the cliffs of Moher, at Doolin pier, Co Clare, Ireland.

Captur-ed

You don’t usually get such nice days in August in Ireland, but I thought it was the perfect weather to make a postcard picture of the Dingle peninsula. It’s quite dull and not sponsored in anyway by Renault but still, sometimes you just have to embrace the blue sky.

Anascaul

A view from Lake Anascaul, in the Dingle Peninsula, Co Kerry, Ireland. Perhaps one of the most beautiful lakes of the region, and quite secluded as well. Btw : bring midge repellent if you plan on camping near the lake 🙂

Dull sky sometimes lead to interesting pictures. In this case, I quite liked the tree and the clouds, coupled with the nice “Windows XP” hills !

Nice walk

Walk near Saint-Jean-de-Côle in Dordogne, France. Quite honestly I find the picture to be a bit dull, but the scenery was nice enough for me to keep it.

Saint-Estèphe

A view of the Saint-Estèphe lake in Dordogne, France, and a first trial of the Laowa 7.5mm f/2. I regret not having used focus stacking to have a sharper background, and still have to learn with a fully manual lens. ND1000+16 filters used to reach 30s exposure at f/8.

Photo of the Douaumont ossuary memorial. The monument represents a sword in the ground, and the word PAX (peace) is written at the main entrance. It was inaugurated in 1932 and in 1984, it was witness to the famous handshake between the French and German Presidents, François Mitterrand and Helmut Kohl.
